On 10-July 2025| Juba, South
Sudan – The Minister of General
Education and Instruction, Hon. Abol Kuyok Abol, officially launched a
nationwide tree planting initiative today at Juba Day Secondary School. He was
joined by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of General Education and
Instruction, Hon. Kachuol Mabil Piok, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of
Environment and Forestry, Hon. Jaden Tongun Emilio.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting
environmental sustainability within educational institutions. It aims to
enhance the ecological landscape of school environments while fostering
environmental awareness among learners.
The event brought together students, teachers, and senior government
officials who actively participated in planting trees across the school
compound. The activity served not only as a practical environmental
intervention but also as an educational opportunity to instill values of
conservation and sustainability in young minds.
Speaking at the event, Minister Abol emphasized the broader significance
of the initiative:
"Planting trees is not merely about beautifying our schools. It is
about creating healthier learning environments for our children and nurturing a
sense of environmental stewardship among future generations."
Echoing this sentiment, Hon. Jaden Tongun Emilio highlighted the
educational value of the initiative:
"Learners will gain not only scientific knowledge about nature but also
a deeper understanding of the importance of conservation and sustainable
living."
While the initiative has received widespread support across schools
nationwide, the Ministry emphasized the importance of ongoing maintenance and
care for the newly planted trees. School administrations are encouraged to take
active responsibility in ensuring the long-term success of this greening
effort.
This tree planting campaign represents a significant step toward
integrating environmental consciousness into the national education agenda. By
improving air and water quality, reducing the effects of urban heat, and
creating more engaging learning spaces, the initiative contributes meaningfully
to both environmental protection and educational enrichment.
