On 6 November, Her Excellency Josephine
Lagu, Vice President and Chair of the Service Cluster, officially launched
the Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Education Systems (BRACE) project
in Juba.
The BRACE project is a four-year, $17
million education-focused climate resilience initiative, co-funded by the Green
Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
In her keynote address, H.E. Josephine Lagu
highlighted the critical need to institutionalize climate resilience
within schools. She urged the Ministry of General Education and Instruction to
integrate climate resilience into teacher training programs and ensure
that curriculum development reflects the needs and interests of children,
equipping them to thrive in a changing environment.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Dr. Kuyok
Abol Kuyok, Minister of General Education and Instruction, reaffirmed that the
BRACE project represents an investment in South Sudan’s most valuable resource—the
minds of its children and youth. He pledged the Ministry’s full commitment to
implementation and called on State governments and implementing partners to
uphold high standards of accountability, transparency, and impact.
This landmark initiative aims to strengthen
education systems against climate-related risks, ensuring that South Sudan’s
children can learn and succeed in safe, resilient learning environments.
