NEW YORK, USA – South Sudan’s Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, was part of the high-level delegation representing the nation at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) held in New York City in September 2025. While the main General Debate was addressed by Vice President Josephine Joseph Lagu, Minister Kuyok's attendance focused on engaging with key international partners and global education forums taking place during the High-Level Week (September 22-30). Key Focus: Global Partnerships for Education and Education Cannot Wait High-Level Steering Group. The Minister's presence at the UNGA 80 provided a critical platform to address South Sudan's educational challenges and opportunities. His agenda focused on: Securing International Support: Advocating for increased financial and technical assistance from UN agencies and development partners to support the country's national education policy goals, which include eradicating illiteracy, ensuring equitable access, and promoting quality learning. Highlighting Achievements: Showcasing recent steps taken by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, such as efforts to improve student enrollment, release of examination results, and implementation of new academic calendars. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Participating in side events related to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and other interconnected goals, emphasizing South Sudan's commitment to delivering free and compulsory education despite ongoing challenges.
