National Stakeholders' Curriculum Validation Workshop Underway in Juba

A six-day National Stakeholders' Validation Workshop for the Pre-Primary and Primary Teacher Education Curriculum is currently underway at the Glory Regency Hotel in Juba.

The validation exercise, which commenced on 6 August 2026, will conclude on 12 August 2026. The workshop is organized by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) with support from the World Bank through the Building Skills and Human Capital Development in South Sudan (BSHCDSS) Project.

The validation process is being facilitated by curriculum experts from Kenyatta University, Kenya, who are working closely with national education stakeholders to review, refine, and validate the new teacher education curriculum framework.

Speaking during the opening session, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of General Education and Instruction emphasized that the revised curriculum is designed to produce competent, skilled, and well-prepared teachers capable of delivering quality learning outcomes at both pre-primary and primary levels.

The Director General for National Curriculum Development Centre, Mr. Bullen Daniel Parongwa, urged participants to remain committed throughout the review process, noting that the development of a strong teacher education curriculum is critical to improving the quality of education across the country.

The workshop aims to validate and finalize the draft curriculum to ensure it meets national education standards and equips teachers with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to support effective foundational learning.

Participants include representatives from the Directorates of the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Teacher Training Institutes, development and education partners, the University of Juba, the University of Upper Nile, the National Languages Board, curriculum specialists, and other education experts from across South Sudan. Their collective expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the refinement of the curriculum and ensure that it responds to the country's educational needs and priorities.

The six-day validation exercise is expected to culminate in a finalized Pre-Primary and Primary Teacher Education Curriculum that is aligned with national education standards and informed by international best practices. Once approved, the curriculum will be ready for rollout and implementation, strengthening teacher preparation and enhancing the quality of foundational learning across South Sudan.
