Master Trainers Equipped To Roll Out Quality Early Childhood Development Program Across South Sudan

Juba, 19 August 2026 – The Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MOGEI), in partnership with UNICEF, has successfully conducted a four-day review and three-day training workshop for Master Trainers on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Juba.

Held at the Regency Hotel, the workshop brought together selected education professionals from the national and state levels to review progress in the implementation of ECD programmes and strengthen their capacity to support the delivery of quality early childhood education across South Sudan.

The four-day review focused on assessing achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from ongoing ECD interventions, while the subsequent three-day training provided participants with enhanced knowledge and practical skills on the ECD curriculum, child-centred teaching methodologies, play-based learning approaches, and the monitoring and supervision of ECD centres.

The training aims to establish a strong pool of Master Trainers who will cascade the knowledge and skills acquired to teachers and caregivers across the country. This approach is expected to improve school readiness among young children and contribute to better learning outcomes in the early years of education.

Speaking during the workshop, education officials emphasized that investing in Early Childhood Development is essential for building a strong foundation for lifelong learning and national development. They noted that quality ECD programmes help ensure children develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.

The trained Master Trainers are expected to play a key role in supporting the rollout of quality ECD programmes in communities across South Sudan, helping to ensure that young children have access to safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments.

The workshop concluded with participants developing action plans to guide the cascading of training to county and payam levels in the coming months. This marks an important step towards expanding access to quality Early Childhood Development services and strengthening the education system for South Sudan's youngest learners.
