Stakeholders Validate Roadmap to Transform Five TVET Institutions in South Sudan

Juba, 12 August 2026 – The Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI), with support from UNESCO, has successfully concluded a two-day validation workshop on the Comprehensive Capacity Assessment and Investment Plans Report for five Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across South Sudan.

Held from 11 to 12 August 2026 at Pyramid Hotel in Juba, the workshop brought together representatives from MOGEI directorates, TVET institution management, development partners, and stakeholders from the five beneficiary institutions to review and validate the findings and recommendations of the assessment report.

The validation workshop marked an important step toward strengthening technical and vocational education in South Sudan by providing a roadmap for institutional development, improved infrastructure, enhanced training capacity, and stronger linkages with industry.

Speaking during the workshop, the Director General for TVET expressed appreciation to the African Development Bank (AfDB) for its financial support and to UNESCO for providing technical guidance throughout the assessment process. He also commended the consultants for conducting the comprehensive assessment and incorporating stakeholder feedback into the draft report.

He emphasized that the active participation of the TVET institutions in the validation process was essential for ensuring ownership, accountability, and successful implementation of the recommendations.

"It is important that the institutions themselves validate a report that reflects their strengths, challenges, and future investment needs. This ensures ownership of the findings and commitment to the implementation of the recommendations," he noted.

The workshop validated the Comprehensive Capacity Assessment and Investment Plans Report for the following institutions: 1. Multi Service Training Centre (MTC) 2. Juba Technical Secondary School 3. Bor Technical Secondary School 4. Malakal Technical Secondary School 5. Rumbek Technical Secondary School

Key Recommendations Endorsed

Infrastructure and Equipment Participants prioritized the rehabilitation of workshops and laboratories, as well as the provision of modern training equipment to align training facilities with current industry standards and labor market demands.

Human Resource Capacity The report recommends increased investment in training of trainers, continuous professional development, and the recruitment of qualified instructors to improve the quality and relevance of technical and vocational education.

Industry Linkages and Institutional Governance Stakeholders highlighted the need to strengthen partnerships with the private sector to enhance practical learning opportunities, improve employability of graduates, and reinforce institutional management systems to ensure sustainability and accountability. In his closing remarks, the Director General for TVET explained the next steps in the process.

"The consultants will incorporate the feedback received from stakeholders during the validation workshop into the final reports. The revised documents will then be submitted to the Ad Hoc Steering Committee for review and approval before implementation begins," he said.

The validated report is expected to guide future investments in the five institutions and contribute to the Government's efforts to strengthen the quality, relevance, and accessibility of technical and vocational education in South Sudan. Through improved infrastructure, enhanced institutional capacity, and stronger partnerships with industry, the initiative aims to equip young people with the skills required to participate effectively in the country's socioeconomic development.
