On
September 10th 2024, the Vice President and Chair of the Service
Cluster, Hussein Abdulbagi Akol has given the Ministry of General Education and
Instruction a green light to incorporate ICT in Country’s Education System.
This
comes Tuesday as he opened a two days conference on Inauguration of ICT in
Education. The Vice President said this is in line with government vision of
2040 of having an educated and informed nation with ICT as a key pillar for
socio-economic development.
As
a start, the Minister of General Education and Instruction, Awut Deng Achuil
said the ministry intends to establish ICT centers in 79 counties in the
country arguing those at the counties level are the most disadvantaged.
According
to the minister, 70% of the learners and teachers at the country level do not
have access to internet and telecommunication connectivity.
She
urged the conference to find solution to this internet problem by the end of
the two days conference saying she will be grateful if offline solutions are
found to the most disadvantaged at the grass root.
Despite
the challenges, the government is going through, the deputy minister of
information, Communication and Postal Services, Jacob Maiju Korok said the
country has made significant strides in ICT development.
